Accredited Online College Degree: A Must Have

If you are thinking about getting an online college or university degree you need to make sure that it is an accredited online college degree. There are many, many websites that claim to offer you an online degree. Sometimes these are legitimate college degree programs other times they are illegitimate ones like 'life experience degrees.' The difference between them is accreditation.

You may be wondering what does accreditation mean. Basically it means that some body or group, usually one of the six regional Associations of Colleges and Schools has recognized that degree as being valid and of legitimate quality. An accredited online college degree simply means that the online degree is recognized by an overseeing body as being legitimate.

The reason why you need an accredited online college degree is that it is the only kind of degree other schools or more importantly employers will recognize. This goes double for online degrees, due to the rampant number of scams and fake degree available.

However, please don't take this as me trying to discourage you from getting an online college degree. I just want to make sure that the one you get will be recognized as being valid both by other schools and potential employers.

How do you know which schools offer real accredited online college degrees and which ones are fakes? Well here are a few of the most important things to look for.
  1. Does the school say the degree is accredited? Obviously, if it does not say so (you may have to e-mail or call them to find out) then it is not accredited.

  2. However, even if the online school claims to be offering an accredited online college degree you should check with your regional association of colleges and schools or whatever body oversees accreditation it in your area.

  3. Does the online degree program have actual course work or do you just have to pay money and then get a degree. You can dismiss any website claiming to give you any degree accredited or not just based on your life experiences is going to be a fake. Don't waste your time.

  4. Ideally, your accredited online college degree program will be run by a recognized real world school. Online degrees coming from real schools are often more valuable than ones coming from online only schools.

  5. Finally, once you have determined that your degree is going to be accredited you want to make sure that it will be recognized as being equal to that of a regular college degree. To figure this out you will have to ask local employers or other schools about their opinion of a specific online degree program.
These are obviously only a guideline to finding and choosing an accredited online college degree that you will like. Now the really hard part begins. You need to pick a degree program that you will both like, be able to complete and provide a benefit to your career.
