An online college degree makes a lot of sense for many different kinds of people.
First, they are much more economical than a traditional college degree. With tuition at over $10,000 per year at many real world colleges many people can no longer afford them. Second, online degrees are more convenient for many people than going to an actual college. Before you had to live and/or move to an area with a university to take classes either full or part-time. Third, earning an online college degree is much more flexible than going to a traditional school. The old model was to go to an actual school for 4 years and take classes at whatever time the professor chose. Now with an online degree you can work from home on your own timetable and are no longer forced to accommodate yourself to some else's schedule. Thus, you can see that there are many advantages to choosing an online college degree program over the old fashioned kind. Of course there are great things about physically attending a college but increasingly this is not possible and so these types of degrees provide a great alternative. However, before choosing to opt for an college degree online there are a few things that you should consider. One thing to consider is whether or not the type of degree you want can be completed through an online college. For example, I don't think most people would want or trust a surgeon who has only completed their education online. However, getting a degree in fields such as accounting, business, computers etc. are popular and great way to get ahead. Another thing to consider is the type of worker you are. If you are a self starter an online college degree can be perfect for you. However, if you have difficulty starting things under your own initiative you will find it difficult to complete your degree. It requires a fair degree of discipline to work from home with all the distractions it provides. A final thing to consider is the social aspect of school. College can be a great place to meet new people and make new friends. This is something that while, not impossible with an online degree program, is a little bit more difficult given the fact that your classmates will probably be scattered across the country or even around the world. So if you are looking to socialize an online degree may not be for you. Therefore there are many advantages to getting an online college degree. Basically they are economical , convenient and flexible. However, there are still a few thing to consider before going and getting one. Mainly the type of degree you want, whether or not you area self starter and finally if you want the social aspect of school. |
